According to the Libro Blanco del Ingeniero presented to the ANECA (Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation), the areas of action of the
Civil Engineers are the following:
The professional activities carried out by Road, Canal and Port Engineers and Public Works Technical Engineers have been grouped by areas, following the criteria of the professional associations themselves. These categories are:

• Five Public Administrations (the three types of local administration, the Ministry of Development and the other ministries).
• Teaching and research.
• Consulting firm.
• Construction companies.
• Transport companies.
• Water and energy companies.
• Management companies.
