Presentation

The Degree in Geomatics Engineering belongs to the branch of knowledge of Engineering and Architecture. Its fundamental objective is the scientific, technological and socioeconomic training of the student oriented to the preparation for professional practice in the development and application of Geomatic Engineering and Topography.

The study plan leading to the Degree in Geomatics Engineering consists of 240 ECTS credits distributed in four academic years of 60 credits each. The Degree in Geomatic Engineering qualifies for the exercise of the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography, developed in Order CIN/353/2009, of February 9, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that enable for the exercise of the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography and enables access to a Master's degree.

The minimum number of European enrollment credits per student and teaching period in the degree is in accordance with the Rules of Progress and Permanence in the official degrees of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which establish the modalities of enrollment in time complete and partial.

The languages ​​used in the teaching of this title are Spanish and English with proportions of 95% and 5% of the credits that make up the degree, respectively. To obtain the degree, the student must have in a foreign language the equivalent of level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Admission profile

As established in the objectives of the degree, the Graduate in Geomatics Engineering is a professional with a broad vision of the field of Geomatics and Topography, its fundamental disciplines, basic principles and scope, aware of the need to update their training permanently and equipped with the necessary self-learning skills to do so.

For a correct development of the studies leading to the degree in Geomatics Engineering taught at the School of the ULPGC, it is considered advisable that the entry profile of students corresponds to the following personal and academic characteristics:

Required knowledge:

  • Notions of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
  • Oral and written expression in Spanish, comprehension of texts in Spanish.
  • Oral and written expression in English, comprehension of texts in English.
  • Handling of plans

Required Skills:

  • Aptitude for study and work organization.
  • Logical reasoning and real-world problem-solving skills.
  • Readiness for practical work.
  • Manual dexterity in the handling of instruments or equipment that will be widely used in their studies.

The admission profile described above may be updated and improved in accordance with the provisions of procedure PCC01 (Key Procedure for the Definition of the Admission Profile and Student Recruitment) of the Quality Assurance System (QAS) of the EIIC.

According to this procedure, the Quality Assurance Committee of the Faculty, following an analysis of the reference frameworks and a study of the current situation of the closest university system, the social environment and the professional environment, will be responsible for proposing to the Teaching Advisory Committee, for discussion, and to the Faculty Management Team, for approval, the revision of the admission profile of the degree program, so that it can be ratified, if appropriate, by the Faculty Board. Once the admission profile of the degree has been approved, it is disseminated through the usual channels, following the PCC08 procedure (Key Public Information Procedure).

Graduate Profile

The main objective of the Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics Engineering is the scientific, technological and socio-economic training of students to prepare them for professional practice in the development and application of Geomatics Engineering and Surveying. It qualifies for the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography, developed in the Order CIN/353/2009, of 9 February, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that enable the exercise of the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography and allows access to a Master’s degree.

Implementation schedule

The proposed Degree in Geomatics Engineering replaces the current Degree in Geomatics Engineering and Topography, approved by the Council of Ministers on 22 July 2011 (BOE Resolution of 30 November 2011).

The implementation of the new curriculum will be carried out gradually and progressively, so that students enrolled in the current degree in Geomatics Engineering and Surveying will be able to continue their studies until completion. It is planned that the new degree will begin to be taught from the 2015-2016 academic year. The various courses that make up the syllabus will be implemented progressively year after year until its full implementation in the academic year 2019/2020. At the same time, the respective courses of the current degree program will be discontinued.

Goals

The main objective of the Degree in Geomatics Engineering is to provide scientific, technological and socio-economic training aimed at preparing students for professional practice in the development and application of Geomatics and Topographical Engineering. It also allows access to a Master’s degree that goes deeper into a more specific professional profile that enables students to carry out research and obtain a Doctorate or Master’s degree of a professional nature.

The Degree in Geomatics Engineering qualifies for the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography, developed in Order CIN/353/2009, of 9 February, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that qualify for the profession of Technical Engineer in Topography.

The aim of this degree is to train students to acquire competences in the field of geomatics engineering as well as those necessary for the exercise of the regulated profession of Technical Engineer in Topography in accordance with the provisions of the legal framework that regulates it.

Requirements

Pursuant to el artículo 14 del Real Decreto 1393/2007, de 29 de octubre, which establishes the organization of official university studies, will be able to access this university degree, those who meet the requirements of the current legislation to access the university education and who comply with the current regulations and governing selection procedures for admission to university centers. These are the present ways of access to this degree:

  • University Entrance Examination or similar (PAU).
  • Higher professional-training courses, FP2 or similar.
  • UOC
  • University graduates.
  • Students coming from educational systems to which the artículo 38.5 de la Ley Orgánica 2/2006 is applicable.
  • Recognition of foreign university studies (continuation of the same studies).
  • Over 40’s access (possibility provided for in LOMLOU).
