Job description

An exciting competitiveness project will be undertaken by SUEZ in ITC premises in Gran Canaria. You will be instrumental in the successful delivery of the trials to optimise desalination post-treatment.

Highly motivated and able to work autonomously, you will require at least basic knowledge of the water industry and especially desalination processes. Based in Gran Canaria, you will be hands on, working under the supervision the innovation project responsible (based in Paris). You will build and maintain strong relationship with the SUEZ E&C technical direction team who is based in Paris and occasionally with ITC on site staff and technicians. You will be conducting the operation and maintenance of the pilot plant facility in a safe and reliable manner.  You will monitor the operating conditions and performance of the pilot plant with a high level of attention to details.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Follow the planned pilot operation schedule
  • Build and maintain strong relationship with SUEZ E&C technical direction team and with ITC on site staff and technicians.
  • In charge if the Operations and Maintenance of the Pilot Plant facility in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Monitor the operating conditions and performance of the pilot plant with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Perform facility operational protocols including data collection and logging, cleaning and housekeeping.
  • Undertake preventative maintenance of facility equipment and instrument, including parts replacement and breakdown repairs (alone or supported by on field staff).
  • Perform instrument calibration.
  • Organise sampling logistics, take the samples onsite, correctly label the water samples, perform and/or supervise on-site tests (e.g. alkalinity and hardness measurements).
  • Perform sampling and laboratory testing to confirm optimum operation of the pilot plant and functionality of instrumentation
  • Data extraction, data treatment, data analysis, report writing supported and supervised by the SUEZ technical direction
  • Provide a first level response to minor equipment failure, fault finding, and basic maintenance.

Essential requirements

  • experience in Engineering/Water Treatment preferred but not essential.
  • Master of Science in Engineering / Water Management and Treatment / Chemistry / or equivalent
  • Knowledge of water chemistry and carbonate equilibria is preferred
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of French is a plus.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with laboratory analysis.
  • Experience as a technician in the water sector.

Key competencies acquired during mission:

  • In-depth knowledge acquisition about desalination, in particular remineralization
  • Experience in pilot systems operation & maintenance
  • Knowledge of quality management systems on water treatment plants
  • Capacity to organize sampling and surveillance campaigns for water treatment
  • Development of reporting and communication skills on highly technical subjects
  • Capacity to achieve deadlines under minimal supervision
